Sometime on Saturday the 12th of February 2005, the computer that hosts paranoidfish.org suffered a hard disk failure. In theory this shouldn't have been a problem. In practice, thanks to a long chain of events I'd rather not go into, I lost a lot of data.
This lost data includes, among other things, most of the contents of paranoidfish.org - over 2 years of weblog posts, 3830 or so links and countless images, movies etc.
I have various incomplete backups, and could recover a lot from google's cache, but it would be a lot of work to get it back online - work I just don't have the time to do.
A few months back I was wondering whether to shut down the site, with an eye to start afresh somewhere else. I never reached a conclusion as to whether this would be a good idea. It now seems that the decision has been made for me.
Creating paranoidfish.org has been fun. But in some ways I'm glad its gone. It's liberating to have the chance to start again without having to worry about how to retrofit archives into a new format.
I've got a new website at paulhammond.org, which I'll be migrating content to at some point in the future.
If you want to link to this notice for whatever reason, please use the URL http://www.paranoidfish.org/oops/ (just in case the rest of the site returns).
